Nestled in the charming heart of Guardia, Araba, Restaurante Biazteri 1974 stands as a beacon for lovers of authentic Spanish bar & grill cuisine. This inviting establishment artfully celebrates the region’s rich culinary heritage with an emphasis on perfectly barbecued meats, fresh seafood, and thoughtfully prepared traditional dishes that bring the flavors of the Basque Country vividly to life.
The menu at Biazteri is a passionate tribute to premium quality ingredients and impeccable technique. Carnivores will find themselves enchanted by the Chuletón premium, a towering aged veal T-bone grilled to smoky perfection, boasting tender juiciness that Simon Brynte praised as “the best, most tender pork meat I have eaten in my life!” For those savoring heritage flavors, the Chuletón de vaca vieja and traditional roasted suckling lamb and piglet stand out as exquisite choices, each bite delivering deep, rustic satisfaction wrapped in subtle caramelization from the grill.
Seafood lovers won’t be left wanting either. Delicacies like Bacalao a La Riojana capture the essence of Rioja’s famed sauces and peppers, while the Pulpo con parmentier y pimentón De la Vera offers a tender, smoky octopus paired beautifully with velvety parmentier and paprika that tingles the palate with authentic Spanish spice. The Tataki de atún rojo with sesame and soy adds a refined, umami-rich contrast to the traditionally robust menu.
Equally impressive are the fresh, vibrant salads that balance richness with zest — from the delicate burrata paired with confit tomatoes and basil sauce to the lively shrimp and octopus fruit salad, every dish feels thoughtfully composed to awaken your senses and invite indulgence.
What truly elevates the dining experience at Biazteri is its atmosphere: a warm, welcoming space that effortlessly blends casual charm with elegance. Guests often enjoy dining on the shady outdoor terrace, where the gentle rustle of leaves and scenic views beside the historic church create a relaxed yet sophisticated ambiance. Alexa’s experience of a “fabulous Sunday lunch” here is a sentiment frequently echoed, highlighting the blend of attentive service and outstanding cuisine.
Customer testimonials beautifully capture the spirit and quality that Restaurante Biazteri exudes. Christin Obst noted its authenticity and exceptional wine pairings, while A G praised both the carefully cooked meats and the owner Laurent’s impressive selection of local wines — a perfect complement to every meal. The staff’s multilingual hospitality, as Simon Foster Golf details, makes this an accessible and inviting destination for travelers from all backgrounds.
Whether you are settling in for a casual pintxo or a full multi-course meal, Biazteri 1974 promises a feast that is both comforting and exciting, deeply rooted in its Basque and Rioja surroundings. The generous portions, expert preparation, and genuine passion for food ensure that each visit leaves a lingering desire to return — an experience that transcends mere dining to become a true celebration of local culture and flavor.

We absolutely loved the food at Biazteri. In our opinion, it was the most authentic restaurant we visited during our stay. The staff was amazing, we got excellent wine recommendations and the food was very good. We cancelled a reservation at a higher rated restaurant outside Laguardia to come back. Loved the beans with chorizo and the prawns but there was so much more to enjoy.

We ate here a number of times on previous visits to Laguardia (2016 and 2017!) - compared to then, the Menú seemed, at first, a little more expensive. If that was the case, the extra proved well worth it; for our €25 each we enjoyed a wonderful meal, with generous portions, making it a struggle to finish everything. It might be unfair to single out a single course - since every course was lovely - but it was the deserts that seemed to offer the marked improvement. The Lemon Sorbet (which, in this area, seems to be a “slushy” consistency, consumed through a straw) was wonderful, and a perfect way to round off a rich meal. Of course, the Menú price includes a nice wine (from the town, of course!), water and bread. Service was faultless, and for the first time we ate in the indoor restaurant room, which is a very attractive space.

Excellent dinner at Biazteri in a beautiful setting, we sat on the terrace under the trees next to the church. Every dishes were good, from the beans & chorizo, the asparagus, and of course the meat, pluma & filet mignon we perfectly cooked. But we should not forget the wine, Laurent the owner is a wine aficionado and this is definitely one of the best place to experience local wines but not only. On top of that the prices are very fair. To sum up, don’t miss Biazteri while being in the Rioja region!

This restaurant is the complete opposite of the lovely local wine that we sampled from Bodegas Javier San Pedro Ortega; translated “Never Again”! but as for Biazteri what a lovely restaurant with options for casual dining, pinchos y tapas or the beautifully furnished “sala restaurante” for more a la carte dining. Many thanks to Monique and all the staff for the hospitality and multilingual tongues, the “Bacalao a La Riojana” is such a typical plate from this area and it didn’t disappoint “Eskerrik Asko”! I would highly recommend to any guiri visiting LaGuardia.
